Cinnabar Quartz - Technically, I am a mercury sulfide mineral with a hardness of 2 to 2.5. My color is vermilion red or brownish when impurities are present. I form in areas that are volcanically active. My raw ore is often what is used to produce refined Mercury. Since I contain the toxic metal mercury, you should use caution when handling or wearing me.
