Abalone Shells are the protective home of ocean dwelling creatures called Mollusks. They are commonly found in colder coastal waters, frequently washing up on shores as half shells. The thick inner portion is composed of Nacre or Mother of Pearl, and is the portion used for jewelry.
A symbol of Water, specifically Ocean water, its is said to provoke calmness and tranquility in its wearer. It is a soothing stone, which provides a calming, peaceful protection. Provides a sense of comfort and safety. Abalone was used as currency (Wampum) by some Native American tribes, and as adornments, sometimes glued directly to the skin, or in Jewelry. To Native people it is a symbol of life.
